Summer Term 2016

We hope you like the Tudor town we made as part of our homework project. They are very authentic.

We really enjoyed our Forest School days with Mr Smith. We made dens and woodland mobiles.

We wrote persuasive tales about the environment based on traditional tales we all know well.
Then we studied illustrations by Jan Pienowski, and copied the silhouette-style pictures to create these beautiful displays.

Silver Birch has had a great time learning about, First Aid, Animation and Food Technology over the last two weeks.

We loved performing in our assembly in front of our families. Everyone said they really enjoyed it, especially our French Rap!

Here are some photographs from our amazing trip to Ordsall Hall. You can see us at the Wedding Feast, in the kitchen, in the star chamber and just after the rat dance!

Spring Term 2016

Silver Birch had an amazing time during our Forensic Science Workshop being crime scene investigators. Each group had a crime scene to work in where they looked for clues to solve the crime. We were very proud of how well they worked together in teams, and every group solved the crime! Throughout the day the children enjoyed lots of follow up activities, including making a set of their fingerprints!

Hawthorn and Silver Birch had a wonderful time when Happy Puzzle Company came to visit. Children had to use all their logical skills and work as a team to solve the puzzle.

Autumn Term 2015

Our class, alongside the rest of school, enjoyed dressing up in our pyjamas for Children in Need day. Mrs Ellison and Mrs Collyer enjoyed it too! During Anti-Bullying Week last week, our Year 4’s studied a poem about bullying and our Year 5’s wrote a poem describing how a victim of bullying might feel. Year 4 performed the poem they had learned during in our ‘Showcase’ assembly and some Year 5’s read the poems they had written. In PE we have been learning how to play table tennis. It’s been fun to learn a new skill. It is has been great to go swimming each week so far this year, however it is our last lesson next week.

Silver Birch had a lovely time when the History Van came into school. We experienced many aspects of life in the year 829 AD, including making ink and using it to write our names in old English lettering, making illuminative text, milking sheep(!), weaving, churning butter, and preparing for battle…

Our ticket to Mars!

Silver Birch have had a lot of fun modelling the digestive process. We used our hands and scissors as teeth, and sent a banana and a Weetabix on a very messy journey; down a funnel for an oesophagus, into a plastic bag with lots of ‘acid’ as a stomach, and through some tights which represented the intestines. We learned that you need a lot of saliva to send the food on its way – otherwise it will get stuck in the ‘funnel’!
These pictures show some of the highlights of our messy afternoon. We are also making a 3D model of the digestive system. Look out for our photos soon.
