Spring Term 2016

Oak and Hawthorn taking part in a snowman building competition!

We had a great trip to Jodrell Bank on 29 February. We learnt lots about space from the exhibitions and the scientists who were able to explain everything very clearly. One of our workshops was in the inflatable planetarium looking at the constellations and the other involved working in teams on four different experiments.

As part of their Science investigation into "upthrust", the children made paper boats to see which design could support the most paper clips.

The children have made Islamic prayer mats in the form of collages using various cloths, wool and pencils as part of the topic "Expressing faith through the arts". Here they are displayed alongside two real prayer mats.

Hawthorn and Silver Birch had a wonderful time when Happy Puzzle Company came to visit. Children had to use all their logical skills and work as a team to solve the puzzle.

Hawthorn (and the Year 5s from Silver Birch) have started having music lessons with Judith on Mondays as part of the Wider Opportunities initiative. Soon they will be beginning to learn to play the clarinet!

Welcome back, we hope you have all had a good holiday and that everyone is looking forward to their new class.
For our topic this term we will be looking at Ancient Greece, why not have a head start and browse the BBC primary history schools site:
